Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. threw out the first pitch at the River Cats game at Raley Field in Sacramento, CA on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
The special event at this year's California-Nevada Annual Conference Session brought the crowd from its seats – literally. On Thursday, June 21, conference-goers left the Sacramento Convention Center, where the majority of the business of ACS took place, and headed for Raley Field to watch the "home team" – the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A baseball) – deliver a convincing win against the Grizzlies of Fresno. (The Cats blanked the Grizzlies by a score of 6-0, and in so doing moved to first place, a half-game ahead of Fresno, in their division.)
Bishop Brown threw out the first pitch at the game and was interviewed about the cause at the Conference's Imagine No Malaria booth, where members of the youth and young adult delegations to ACS handed out fly swatters, wrist bands, and leaflets – and gave INM T-shirts to anyone who made a $10 contribution through text-messaging (which brought in $190). To further raise awareness about the importance of the cause, the River Cats organization played a public service announcement for Imagine No Malaria on the stadium's giant screens.
