Nursery Caregiver


Lake Merritt United Methodist Church is seeking a nursery caregiver who will provide care to children (ages 0-3) and families visiting the nursery room before, during, and after Sunday worship. The following skills are required abilities: Ability to care for the safety and wellbeing of infants and young children Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for infants and young children Ability to listen to and communicate with people of all ages, especially children and parents Ability to show genuine interest in responding to the needs and concerns of children These are preferred skills: Child development background Certified in CPR and First Aid Committed to supporting the Christian faith and the mission of The United Methodist Church Duties will include: Provide care for children (ages 0-3) before and during worship services. Typical hours are Sunday 10:15am-12:15pm (possibly more by request) Respond to supervision from the Director of Children’s Ministry and Faith Formation Participate in Safe Sanctuaries® background check & training Maintain the health and safety of the nursery room space, diaper changing and napping area. Provide a nurturing space for children and families to feel safe and accepted. Communicate and uphold the procedures for accepting children into care with parents/guardians Ensure materials shared by church and renting preschool are in order prior to use Find ways to support the children’s ministry with creativity and initiative Will be given first option to provide care during special events for infants and children ABOUT THE CHURCH: Lake Merritt United Methodist Church is an open, affirming and welcoming Christian congregation serving God in downtown Oakland.
