The Campus Minister/Director is responsible for developing and growing a supportive, Christian community where students can feel free to engage in open discussion of questions of faith, vocation, and issues of social justice.




  • Assess student spiritual needs and respond to leadership potential.

  • Hire and supervise Peer Ministers and Interns as approved by the Board of Wesley Club

  • Reach out to students on campus to connect with those who attend Sunday worship at University Temple United Methodist Church, and make contact with students who are related through the conference-wide United Methodist connection.

  • Work cooperatively with the Pastor of University Temple United Methodist Church to assure coordination of campus ministries within the University District.

  • Cultivate relationships with other churches, ministries, clergy and churches as well as UW faculty members.

  • Cooperate with other campus religious groups, especially those concerned with issues of social justice, peacemaking, and community service engagement.

  • Communicate to the Board of Directors student needs and trends and provide input regarding the Board's empowerment of an effective ministry.

  • Serve as a member of the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry of the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference.

  • Work cooperatively with the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church to ensure good relationships with clergy, local churches, District Superintendent

  • Have a personal interest in helping college age young adults to grow in their Christian faithfulness and to integrate that growth with their academic life and personal values.




  • Hire and supervise additional personnel as approved by the Board of Directors.

  • Coordinate with Justice & Outreach Coordinator to Lead a cadre of student leaders who will assist in the development and delivery of programming

  • Recruit and foster the growth of Board members.

  • Serve as ex-officio member of the Executive, Personnel, Finance and Nominating Committees of the Board

  • Chair the Development Committee; make certain that all monies are accounted for in fundraising; responsible for appropriate acknowledgment and receipts are provided to donors.

  • Serve as a member of University District Ecumenical Campus Coalition (UDECC).

  • Work cooperatively with the Board to establish goals for personnel, for the Board, and for the campus ministry.




  • A successful candidate will be: creative; thoughtful; prayerful, flexible; able to work in a team environment; and effectively to help students engage in the spiritual and intellectual explorations of their own religious traditions as well as others and also have an appreciation for the connections between faith and social justice.

  • An Entrepreneurial leader who is willing to engage in short and long term goal and program planning

  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

  • Proven history of successfully growing a congregation or student organization.

  • Experience and proven ability to provide spiritual leadership and group facilitation, particularly with young adults and/or in academic settings.

  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to facilitate programming and help maintain the Wesley Club's commitment to remaining open for students during evening as well as daytime hours.

  • Masters Level Education.




This is a full-time position with work divided between Administrative duties and Ministry activities for the benefit of the student population of The University of Washington.  The Campus Minister/Director will coordinate with the Justice & Outreach Coordinator to arrange appropriate schedules to further the work of the Wesley Club.




Compensation for this position is determined by the Board of Directors. Benefits include three weeks of paid vacation annually, plus one paid week of continuing education time.  Holidays include those listed on the University of Washington calendar, with up to 12 days sick leave annually, as necessary.  Salary range is $40,000-$45,000 plus allowance for health benefits.
