Sonoma United Methodist Church – Accompanist, Job Description Job Title: Primary Accompanist – position begins August 26, 2015 Qualifications: • Proficiency in playing piano - including ability to sight read piano and chorale repertoire (esp. hymns and anthems) and ability to play using chords (often the case for contemporary music) • Experience with diverse styles of music • Ability to select appropriate repertoire for prelude and postludes • Ability to play also organ (or other instruments), preferred. • Ability to perform with a variety of ensembles General Duties of the Accompanist: • Provide piano/organ accompaniment for Sunday Worship service; promoting the spiritual life of the congregation through music ministry. • The accompanist will arrive each Sunday in time to rehearse with Music Team prior to the beginning of the Worship Service – Sunday worship is at 10am • The Accompanist will be available for regularly scheduled weekly rehearsal(s) – usually Wednesdays 6pm. • Be available to schedule additional rehearsals (as needed) with worship musicians or soloists. • Suggestions for worship music will be submitted to the Music Director. Selections will be made by the music director in consultation with the Pastor, the Music Team and the Worship Committee • Special Worship Services and Church Gatherings: The Accompanist may be called upon to play for other Worship Service/Church Events (Memorials, Weddings, Celebrations etc.) The Accompanist is welcome to accept or decline these invitations as schedule allows. Compensation for such occasions will be at the rate of $125 per service or event. Arrive at least 45minutes before the event.
