Director of Family Ministries


Position: Director of Faith Family Ministries Supervisor: Pastor Job Summary: The Director of Faith Family Ministries, in collaboration with the pastor, will develop, implement, and lead spiritually nurturing, age appropriate activities that are in harmony with Methodist principles and Safe Sanctuary practices for children ranging in ages from preschool through middle school (8th grade), and their families. Duties and Responsibilities: • Develop, implement, and lead spiritually nurturing and age appropriate activities that are in harmony with Methodist principles for children ranging in ages from preschool through middle school, and their families; • Work with the pastor in preparation of the programs listed above; • Oversee the recruitment and training of adult volunteers to work with the programs listed above; • Work with the Finance Committee in preparation of an annual budget and fundraising; • Provide a timely and accurate schedule of the activities of Faith Family Ministries to the Administrative Assistant for church publications; • Coordinate fundraising activities that support special youth activities and trips; • Promote Christian service through age appropriate service projects; • Attend Council of Ministries meetings and any other meeting required for the position; • Request the disbursement of budgeted funds for Faith Family Ministries within the guidelines of the approved budget and in adherence with the purchasing policies of the church; • Encourage young people to participate in all facets of the life of our community of faith, including worship, choir, educational opportunities, camps, retreats and service projects. Requirements: • A passion for ministry with young people and their families; • Creative worship and teaching skills; • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to relate well with young people, their families, the pastor, staff, congregation, and community; • Strong leadership, team-building qualities; • Upbeat and positive attitude; • Ability to articulate the mission of the Modesto First United Methodist Church; • A valid California State driver's license; • According to our Safe Sanctuaries Policy, the Director of Faith Family Ministries must be at least 23 years of age and pass a background evaluation. Hours: The position of Director of Faith Family Ministries requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The position is part-time, hourly, non-exempt, based on an average of 10 hours per week through December 2015, continuation and expansion of the position for 2016 will be determined by the Administrative Board by December 1, 2015.
